Emotional Intelligence

 

 

Feelings, Emotions and other related words are all human traits and behaviors, every human has the capacity to feel, show emotions and this emotions can easily tell the mood at which a person find his or her self,  in more defined terms these emotions can be negative or positive.

Emotions according to layman terms is  a strong feeling deriving from one’s circumstances, mood, or relationships with others while  emotional intelligence is the ability to manage both your own emotions and understand the emotions of people around you.

This is quite important in our day to day activities because we have diverse people  with different behavioral patterns that we have to deal with and in other to avoid stress, distractions and unnecessary health complications, we need to master the use of emotional intelligence. I will be taking you through some phases in what causes action and inaction  while working towards emotional intelligence.

 

Stages  of actions and reactions

The normal routine at which every individual reacts is evident below 

Action>>>> impact>>>>cerebral  cortex>>>>reaction/response

  • Action: these is what is done to you, any form of behavior a person shows you.
  • Impact: this is the effect and influence of another persons actions or attitudes on you.
  • Cerebral cortex: this part of the brain is responsible for a lot of things , the frontal lobe which is a part of the cortex is home to areas that manage thinking, emotions, personality, judgment, self-control, muscle control and movements, memory storage and more. Here you can decide to be emotional about the impact of an individuals actions  on you or you can decide to be logical about it which in turn informs the last point below.
  • Reaction/Response: it means something done as a result of an action and impact of a behavior on an individual.

 The art of mastering emotional intelligence is simply knowing how to mange all these behavioral pattens and logically separating emotions from logic, we need emotional intelligence to deal with people in our day to day lives, be it loved one or those we consider as ‘not to close’, emotional intelligence is key in achieving our dreams and aspirations, a good way to reduce depression and suicidal attempts when used properly.

As an individual when we go through this stages or patterns of action, impact then we react, we just follow the usual and easier way of dealing with people and that may in turn cause bitterness, hurt or even worse but when we experience an individual action, we feel the impact of the action, we process through the cerebral cortex and focus more logically, then we begin to ask the right questions, the why, when, how and other key reflective questions  then  our reactions birthed from logic not emotions.

Yes, why you are not emotionally intelligent is that, you choose to react based on what you feel without thinking logically or asking the right questions , response is a well thought action, that means you have to think before you talk or act  while reaction is just an instant disburse of your feelings.

Finally to be emotionally intelligent means you must learn how to use more of your logical sense than your emotional sense, it helps to be more clear and makes you to make more clear decisions and better judgement.
